FAQs

Dimmers

The Director® DR3 must not be connected to a dimmable supply. Ideally, other Director lights should also be connected to an undimmed power supply. Dimming is then achieved using the built-in dimmer. If it is necessary to use and external dimmer or scene-setter, it is preferable to use a trailing edge dimmer. Leading edge dimmers cause a buzzing noise at certain dim values.

The control circuits and motors will continue to operate down to a dimmer setting of approximately 40%.

Warranty

What warranty does RCL offer?

RCL offers a ‘no quibble’ replacement policy for the first 3 years after the light is delivered. Simply call RCL to arrange for a replacement. We will only charge for this if there is evidence of damage or tampering.

Lights used in sequencing mode are subject to a 1 year warranty.

Moving The Unit By Hand

Will I break the unit if I try to move it in pan and tilt by hand?

The DR2 and DR3 both have slipping clutches that allow them to be moved by hand. This makes it easy to position them on the track and change the lamp. All other Director products should not be moved by hand.

Lamp Change

Will I need special tools to change the lamp?

A screwdriver is needed for the QR111 (cross head) and PAR36 lamps (flat). All other lamps in the Director series can be changed without the use of special tools.

User Adjustment/Maintenance/Servicing

Are there any adjustments to make in the light and does it require regular service or maintenance?

There are no user serviceable parts. No maintainance is required.

How Many Controllers?

Do I need a controller for each light I buy?

No, one controller can control all the lights in the room.

How Many Lights Can I Install?

Is there a limit to the number of lights I can install in a room?

Providing that they can rotate without hitting each other and are not placed closer than 1 metre (3 feet) from the nearest inflammable surface, the limit is set by the electrical supply. Typically lighting tracks can carry a maximum load of 16 Amps. A DR2 with a 100W lamp requires a current of 0.5 Amps, therefore 32 could be installed on a single track.

Accessories

Can I fit accessories such as honeycomb louvres?

Yes, please click here to visit our accessories section.

Colours

What colours are available?

White, silver and black are the standard colours. Other colours are available, please contact RCL

Track Options

What tracks will the DR2 and DR3 fit on?

Any track for which an adaptor is available. Standard tracks are 3-Circuit Eurotrack, 1-Circuit Lytespan 1, Global Track.

Using the Director® without a Track?

Is there a monopoint version?

Yes, we can supply a monopoint fixing, and can also mount lights on hook clamps and wall brackets.

When the light is switched off

What happens when the power is switched off?

The light does not move when the power is applied or removed. The dimmer (on all Director models except the DR3) remembers the setting that was applied at the time when the power was removed and reapplies it. If the power is removed during a control sequence i.e. when the LED on the lower surface of the light is on, the previous dimmer setting is reapplied.

Does the Director® move along the track under remote control?

No. The Director® luminaire has fully remote controlled pan, tilt and dimming, allowing each light to point in any direction. Should any adjustment of the mounting point be required, this must be done manually.

I have lost my manual and would like a replacement.
