The Great Room of The Grosvenor House Hotel is arguably London’s
premier banqueting venue. Capable of holding banquets seating 2,000
guests, it has been chosen for many high profile events including The
BAFTAs and The Mercury Music Awards.
In 2005 the Health and Safety inspector recommended that ladders should
no longer be used in the Great Room. The hotel purchased a mechanical
hoist but found it hard to manoeuvre it between the tables once they
were in position.
The hotel technical staff decided to order 240 Director
DR2 pinspots.
At the hotel’s request, these were fitted with 6 volt transformers
so that very narrow beam lamps could be used. The effect shown in the
image was achieved with one 35W lamp per table. At the same time, RCL
delivered 60 DR2 lights for use
with the normal 12V lamps. These are installed in the ballroom.
